Notes from HIGH Noon Rotary’s 11 Feb 2010 lunch meeting:

I’m sure we all agree what a pleasure it will be to have Pres-elect and scribe Wayne back with us next week…..My apologies for this delayed update, yesterday disappeared.

Happily for the Doubletree and Peter, the parking lot was filled to capacity and our lunch was served in the downstairs meeting room. Food had a Mexican flair and was delicious as usual. Thanks to all the staff at the Doubletree.

Mark called us to order with the pledge following. Red ball concluded last weekend with our club’s sales at close to 960 tickets, netting about $4200. Total raised was close to $33,400. Rotaract past pres, Britney was the lucky winner of the 1st prize of $5000.

Feb 26-27 is the Dave Spencer ski classic at DMR. Dick S has one team fixed and is looking to fill another team if possible. See Dick for donations and interest in joining the 2nd team.

Dick mentioned that WRC is seeing a doubling of demand for services from last year to this one. Monthly requests averaging  over #80 , with Jan 2010 at #91. WRC currently has over 400 members and 60+ corporate members. All forms of support are appreciated, including financial levels of $250, 500 and 1000.

Liz Mora has been with WRC for many years and has recently been appointed its Executive Director. Congrats!. She thanked the many Rotarians in the room that have been supporters over the years. Upcoming events to make your calendars:

April 20-22, 2010:    Girls to Women programs, helping local 8th grade girls prepare for the transition to High School.

June 12, 2010….Men Who Grill…The fun-loving event in front of Buckley Park…which raised $14,000 last year.

WRC helps with Economic Self-Sufficiency thru small business assistance, legal referrals and health care support. Liz hopes to revive Women Aid with the help of a monthly event at the Rochester Hotel. Look for either brown bag lunch events or happy hour gatherings. Donations have gone to help with car payments and eye glass purchases.

March is Womens’ History month. WRC will jointly work with FLC to present 5 events during the month.

Liz is also looking into funding a WRC scholarship to be launched in the Fall of 2011.
