Jason announced the upcoming Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowling event, hopes some of our members will help support the event. Rick OÕBlock introduced Karen Metcalf, who has raised more money than any of the other facilities in the Mercy system (Karen says it was possible because of the community we live in). Karen announced the upcoming Soup for the Soul fundraising event for Mercy Hospice. Will be held March 19. Justin Osborne introduced Gary Greer, a pilot, Bob Chaput introduced Walt Deere, who announced that the author of Down in Flames, (Ray Parker) will be in Durango on March 13 for a book signing. Copies of the book were available at front desk. Lastly Tammy introduced Boom (did a great job with BoomÕs given name). Boom missed the meeting last week due to exams. She had a good weekend attended a birthday party for outgoing exchange student, went to Pagosa Springs, went snowboarding, and made cookies. She says she is enjoying the new trimester.
Dale Garland from Durango High School stopped in to announce they are looking for judges for the upcoming Regional History day. (sorry I missed the date). If any member is interested Dale can be contacted at the high school.
Tom Brossia on behalf of Joy, that we complete the survey on last weeks program ÒThe Golden hourÓ
Dick Sullivan reminded us the Dave Spencer Ski race is coming up March 6&7.
Dan McCarthy announced that Monte Carlo night is 4 weeks away (March 28), asked that if you know someone who may help sponsor the event to contact Sara Olson. Take a poster and put it up at your place of business, sign up sheets were on the table for dealers and other help during the event. Tickets are available now. Silent auction items are needed as well.
Justin Osborne took up his duties as Sargeant of Arms: He started with thanking First National Bank, Bank of San Juans, Alpine Bank and Al Harper at Durango Narrow Gauge, for their sponsorship of Monte Carlo event. Then he went right into fines having to remind 3 of our group that meeting starts at 12: Even though Jill Wark was on front page of the Durango Herald, she was fine exempt as Rotary was mentioned. This was JustinÕs last week as SOA, but he will be back in April.
Happy dollars: Bob Chaput was happy for a birthday, Tom Brossia was happy he got to be JillÕÕs husband for a day, Bud Deering is happy to be progressing with his recovery from shoulder surgery, he is enjoying his helpers-Dick Sullivan cuts his meat, Peter delivers his dessert, and best of all his wife still helps with his shower! Tammy was happy to have gone rock climbing, Steve Redding was happy his guests left after 6 days rather than 8, Jill Carruther happy to have her daughter AnnaBelle turn 3, Justin Osborne was happy to announce he & his wife have settled upon a name for baby girl to be born at a later date. Her name will be Brooklyn Faith.
Program was ÒColoradoÕs Wild HorsesÓ by photographer Claude Steelman. Claude has been a photographer for 26-27 years, photographing wild animals in numerous areas, such as British Columbia, Homer, Alaska, Yellowstone National Park, San Juan Islands, and Florida. Even underwater in Animas River! There are a number of areas in and around here that he shoots photos of wild horses. He has now adopted one of those wild horses and when heÕs not taking photos of it, is spending time training and taming it. Claude generously donated a copy of his book to the club.
I apologize for items I may have missed.
