Fellow Rotarians:
·
Tami kicked off her first meeting today announcing: that Program
themes will be to Inspire, Educate, and Motivate and for all members to help
Rick Routh find speakers that can do at least one or more of those.
·
Tami announced the Board
Meeting and Retreat coming up on July 25th (a Friday) at Durango
Office Suites.
·
Like most professionals and specifically, Rotary Club Presidents,
Tami is extremely busy and tightly scheduled.
Tami’s preferred method of communication is by e mail. Her
e-mail address is: tcoddington@banksanjuans.com
·
Guests were introduced: New 9R Superintendent, Keith Owen guest of
Mary Barter. Mary later received a standing ovation from club members
appreciative of her 9 years service to kids in our community. Wynne Wright,
worldwide hydrologist, guest of Tom Brossia but introduced by Justin Osborne.
Clyde Church, Rotary Assistant governor introduced by Tami Coddington. Lastly, Lucy Richards, our guest speaker by
Rick Routh.
·
Tim Walsworth announced the upcoming Golf Tournament on the Friday,
July 18th and was able to recruit Nancy Hammond for a hole
sponsorship with one hole remaining for which we need a hole sponsor. Tim is also still looking for door
prizes. Tim then recognized his fellow
committee members for the tournament and announced that next year the tournament
will be held at the Glacier Club. This
coup de grace is a result of Nancy Bennet, one of our newer club members, who
coincidentally happens to be an employee of the Glacier Club. Good on ya’ Nancy
and Tim.
·
Big, brawny and muscular
Sergeant of Arms, Steve Wheeldon, then waded into the club membership in
attendance and fined just about everything that moved. When the dust had
settled and the blood had dried, Steve had raised $685+. Kudos to Steve for this extraordinary feat!
·
2007-2008 Awards – Outgoing
President, Chip Lile, presented the perfect attendance award to Niles Bruno who
missed last week’s meeting, it was his birthday.
·
Program: Lucy Richards a vivacious and bright young lady and
Exchange Student spoke to the membership about her recent experiences with the
United World Colleges program which has 10 locations around the world to bring
young people together to promote peace. Lucy’s excitement and enthusiasm about
this subject is contagious and when she finished none of us had any doubt that
we may experience peace in our time through the efforts and education of young
people like Lucy. Lucy did a lot of work in conflict resolution and interacted
with young Palestinians and Israelis alike. Rotary can be proud of supporting
the experiences of young people like Lucy.
Won’t see you Thursday, July 17th. Amy will pinch hit for me for the next four
meetings.
Yours in Rotary
