High Noon
Rotary is seeking one person to voluntarily serve as our Club President in
Rotary Year 2010-2011. Check
in with Mark Prouty.
Fellow Rotarians:
- Tami led the pledge and invited Jeff Brown to introduce Jan and Joe
Williams, Rotarians Extraordinaire, formerly of our club but now with the
Daybreak Club since 2002. As it turned out, they were also our program for
today. Walt Nowotny
introduced Steve Pavlik of Russell Engineering and Jim Bennet, husband of
Nancy Bennet and a Navy Veteran. Vern SwansonÕs guest was 25 year Marine
and WW II and Korean War veteran and friend, Frank Truwan. Charlie AlbertÕs guest was his
wife, Judy. Niles BrunoÕs guest was Daybreak President, Rick Smith who
also serves as the Mayor of Bayfield. Rick talked about the upcoming Red
Ball Express and collared Justin Osborne to coordinate the recruitment of
sponsors for the fund
- Announcements: Mark
Prouty announced that of 91 club members, none volunteered to run for
president of the club for 2010-2011.
Oddly, a club made of 91 leaders couldnÕt get even one person to
step forward to be president.
If you believe you have it, please share it with the Club and call
or e-mail Mark Prouty. Tami
said with good planning, the Club runs itself and the nominee will have 18
months to prepare to assume the helm. Justin Osborne reminded us of the
annual HNR Christmas Party to be held on December 4th at the
Strater. Emily Spencer got us a deal for this plated function. There will be no HNR meeting that
week. Bill Cartwright
reported that there were 10 High Nooners who worked the Habitat Build day
on 10/25 and painted the inside of a house. Boom reported that she started a new trimester, some of
her classes are boring, the math is too easy and she was participating in
a crazy but fun dress up day.
- Sgt. of Arms, Fines and Happy Dollars: Tom Crabbe was absent again and Samantha Gallant was
called to step into the breach again. Dan McCarthy to the rescue reporting that Tom Crabbe
had indeed contacted him yesterday to ask Dan to perform Sgt. of Arms
duties. Samantha was happy
her son arrived home from Iraq on VeteranÕs Day. Dan invited all veterans to stand and receive the
ClubÕs appreciation for their service. There were no birthdays or
anniversaries. Bill
Cartwright was happy to have SamanthaÕs green pork chili at the Habitat
Build Day on 10/25. Ken
Fuscoe was happy for his grand daughterÕs success in ice skating. Brian
Myers was happy to have run into former Rotarian and charter member of the
High Noon Club, Fred Klatt.
Burt was happy to report that Boom is a natural horsewoman and
enjoyed her introduction to riding at the Fairgrounds. Ward Holmes paid his IOU for his
birthday last week.
Jennifer Simon is happy to report that she is eating for two these
days. David Downs drew the
winning ticket and gave his winnings to BoomÕs travel fund. Tami reminded us that Boom is
willing to work for additional funds if anyone has work that she could do
for money. Chip Lile paid a fine for his comments in the Herald on the
final chapter of the fire at his business two years ago.
- Program: Jeff Brown talked about the Rotary
Foundation and the opportunity for Rotarians to participate in the many
projects worldwide that Rotary International sponsors merely by donating
$8 monthly, $96 annually and
the Club contributes $4 for a $100 annual contribution. The donor is
designated a sustaining member after hitting the $1,000 goal. Examples of our membersÕ
involvement in the Rotary Foundation: Mark Prouty - $200 enabled him to
have 200 kids in India get vaccinated; Ward Holmes contributed for a
hearing aid for a child in India and Steve Redding funded vaccinations for
100 children in Romania. Jeff
then introduced our guests of honor, Jan and Joe Williams. Their respective Rotary resumes
are too extensive to itemize here.
Both are Rotarians to the bone, bleed Rotary blood and most of us
would be proud to have accomplished 10% of what Jan and Joe have
accomplished individually since joining our very own High Noon Club in
1996. They are major donors (>$10k) and White Hat donors
(>$5K). Both transferred
to the Daybreak Club in 2002 where Jan was its first president. Jan went on to become 5470
District Governor and is a big supporter of the youth exchange program. Joe is currently on the District
staff for the Foundation and is a recognized expert in assisting clubs in
leveraging their local monies for community development projects all over
the world. JoeÕs goal when
Rotary has its Centennial in 2017 is that it be the most effective and
efficient non-governmental organization in the world. With JoeÕs efforts toward helping
it become more efficient and local volunteer based, IÕm confident that
goal will be reached. Joe
thanked senior High Nooners like Bud Deering and Bud Poe for helping him
get started in the club and for their encouragement in his first couple of
years with High Noon. In
closing Jan and Joe honored some of our current membership: Angie Beach
for her super success in growing the DHS Interact Club from a few to
nearly 100. Special recognition went to John Beekman, Bill Hobson and Jim
Burpee as new Rotary Foundation members. Cathy Crum was recognized for being our first female
member and being a multiple RF donor (>$4K). Charlie and Judy Albert were recognized for their
international work in the Honduras water project and Mexico. Chip Lile was
recognized for his work in support of young people. Sara Olsen was recognized for her
work with our Rotaract Club.
Ward HolmesÕ overall inspiration, generosity work with Red Ball and
United Way was also recognized.
It was an honor and inspiration to have Jan and Joe Williams talk
to us today.

The Four Way Test in
everything we do and say:
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build good will and better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Yours in Rotary,
