Rotarians:
Thursday March
13, 2008 - Speaker will be Kellie Hotter, LPC County Commissioner, discussing
the state oil/gas impact funds.
Please
congratulate the following members on achieving their blue badges; Jill
Carithers, Dan McCarthy and Barbara Stine.
- The Interact Club earned $3000 from
their fundraiser on February 23; this entailed what they made selling
tickets prior to and at the door, light bulbs, concessions and the
auction. The LPEA matched the
$1700 given by the High Noon Rotary Board towards the Interact Clubs trip
to Juarez, Mexico.
- Dick Sullivan reported that High Noon
Rotary was awarded a trophy from the Adaptive Sports Association for our
contribution of $6000 for the Dave Spencer Ski Race.
- Leanna Jaworsky spoke on a new Habitat
for Humanity project to be built in Bayfield this year. Get ready to volunteer if
you like working and helping out others. These homes are built and individuals put in equal
"sweat" equity in order to acquire one.
- Niles Bruno reported on the LaPlata
Youth Services; he noted that the city and county are both backing away
from their prior commitment to this program. Whereas the program mostly consisted of young men
before, they are seeing more young women and thus additional female
volunteers to mentor. Of
those who go through the program, approximately 93% never require this
type of assistance again.
- Loryn Kasten, a Women's' Resource Center
(WRC) Board Member spoke on the economic stability the WRC provides for
themselves and others in LaPlata.
They have also set up and Advocacy for LaPlata group that helps
fathers with issues in their lives.
Also on the board are Angie Beach, Dan Morgenstern and Tami
Coddington. Dan is heading up
the Men who Grill effort in June this year.
- Remember Monte Carlo Night, April 5,
2008, at the Durango Arts Center.
Your chance to dress up, take your best friend, husband, wife, or
come as a group just looking to have a good time eating and gambling. This year the food is being
catered by the renown "Sari Brown", so buy your four tickets
early and bring yourself, and three other.
See you Thursday.
