Opening

Steve Govreau opened the meeting and led us all in the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a short inspirational quote.

Announcements

The meeting on May 11, 2006 will be held at the Durango Rec. Center, and not the DoubleTree.  Tammy Coddington said there will be a breakfast meeting for Big Brothers, Big Sisters on May 16th.  Sherry Tabor announced there will be a number of public meetings for input for the new library.  Chandler Jackson is still looking for RYLA applications.  Rick Routh reminded the club of the upcoming Weed and Beer highway clean up on May 31st.  Bob Salzer announced the 10 Rotary scholarship winners - totaling $26,000.

 

Sgt. of Arms

Chandler Jackson stood in for Mark Proudy and appropriately fined those for Birthdays and nametags.  Dave Farmer volunteered a fine for appearing on TV at a sporting event without his Rotary pin.  Ted Robson gave a happy dollar for his planned bicycle trip to California wine country. 

 

Program

Kim Newcomer gave a wonderful presentation on “Operation Healthy Communities”.  The organization covers the 5 counties in Southwest Colorado.  The mission of the organization is divided into three areas:  summits, pathways to HC index, and government non-profit services.  There is a summit coming up on May 12th at Fort Lewis College.  Visit www.communitysummit.org or call 970-382-0585 for details. 

 

Closing

Bud gave us a memorable story of why you should not have your picture appear in a newspaper while in the middle of a divorce.
