ROTARY GRAM   3/17/05 MEETING

 

Esteemed President Mike McGuire opened the meeting with some Irish jokes in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.  There was lots of green in the room as well, some worn and some improvised.  Who knew Doubletree napkins could stand in as bandanas?

 

GUESTS:  

 

We had 2 guests from the Daybreak Club. Also present was the director from Durango Nature Studies.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 

  • RYLA will be held in La Junta this year.  Applications are due in early June. If you know of a high school student leader (or prospective leader) contact Chandler.
  • Work day at Durango Nature Studies…. 4/2/05  Saturday, 10 am – 3 pm.  We have supported the center for many years.  This year we will be building a new trail. Thousands of children use this nature center each year.  Lunch will be provided, please bring work clothes, gloves, shovel or rake and water.  For more information phone Bill Manning at 259 4682.
  • The SKI TEAM did a good job and raised $750.00 for Adaptive Sports… a great photo was passed around.
  • Tom Cheatum requested sponsors for our HNR Bowling team… benefits will go to Big Brothers, Big Sisters.  The event is 4/18/05… call Tom if you haven’t yet had the chance to pledge some bucks.
  • The “wearin of the green” will continue this Saturday at McGuire’s – 3:00 for music, food, brew and good fellowship.   There will be no fireside chat or board meeting before hand….. please email Mike or call him if you plan to attend and have not all ready RSVP'd.
  • Travel to Mexico City to help distribute Wheel Chairs – 5/18  -  5/22.  There are still a few spots left…….. call Charlie for more details.

Mike Kane paid for his newspaper notoriety.  Many birthdays were announced.   If your Rotary Coin flipped to the 4 way test, you were exempt. Otherwise some Rotarians had to pay up. 

 

 FUND RAISING:

 

No one won the “pot o gold” which is now over $225.00.

 

 

MEMBERSHIP:

 

Bill Hobson traded in his red badge for a blue one.

 

 

PROGRAM:

 

Lou Vito is an RN and Captain as well as an EMT.  He gave a wonderful slide presentation on INTERPLAST.  Interplast is the first international humanitarian organization to provide free reconstructive plastic surgery in developing countries.

Thus far over 57,000 lives have been helped by their volunteer efforts.
