ROTARY GRAM   2/3/05 MEETING

The meeting opened with  a moment of silence for those who are not as blessed as we.

GUESTS:

There were a few visiting Rotarians from Daybreak and Evening club. We also enjoyed our 2 exchange students Annette and Milton.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • All rotary exchange students from District 5470 will be here this weekend. Our club is hosting a few. There is a pot luck at Station 1 (Bodo Park)  on Saturday evening from  5:30 – 7:00. All are welcome.   Thank you host families!
  • Tom Cheatum is a new board member replacing Karen L’Argent.
  • Tom C. announced the Big Brothers Big Sisters are having a BOWLATHON

at the Bayfield Bowling alley on 3/19

  • Walter N. had surgery this week for an unexpected hernia problem.
  • Ward reminded us to send in / bring in our sold Red Ball Tickets
  • Marv reminded us that “freedom isn’t free” – words from his grandson who is about to graduate from Basic training as a Marine.
  • Mike Matheson passed around sheets for his children who will be swimming in a swimathon.   Lots of Rotarians helped out by pledging
  • Bud Deering read some “rejected Hallmark card” verses.

SGT AT ARMS:

Dave G. filled in for Patty Burkholder.   He reminded Charlie of his anniversary.  Sounded like Charlie was grateful for the reminder.

There were no birthdays.

Bill H. paid happy $$ for the fact he is buying NORTH POINT FURNISHINGS from his dad.

Nancy V was NOT for sale (however she may have been bribed).  She was the token female at the OF table, a fact that cost the OF’s some $$$.

The OF’s argued loudly about their fines,… but like the wonderful Rotarians they are, they paid up J

Phil B paid some happy bucks for his development getting underway at the corner of 11th and Main.

Coins hit the table… and some $$ for those who didn’t have theirs with them.

Tom B was happy he didn’t get hurt in a skiing accident, and paid a happy $ for it.

Dr. Bob V. was in the paper – and was fined accordingly.

FUND RAISING:

Esteemed president Mike lost the remaining 40+ cards on the floor after no one won the $$.  Hey Mike – did that marked card get back into the deck???

MEMBERSHIP:

 no report

PROGRAM:

We had a great and entertaining program from Andy Cora, owner of Four Corners Sports. He was a participant of an extreme sport challenge that started in MOAB, and ended (for him) in Iceland, with stops in Aspen, Africa, and Costa Rica along the way.  He’s a very interesting guy…. good program!
