ROTARY GRAM   1/20/05 MEETING

 

 The “old fart” table has moved up in the world (or at least in the meeting) they were closure to the podium (to hear better we are told) and shared a bottle of “old fart” wine compliments of the honorable President McGuire

 

 

GUESTS:   There were several, some introduced properly and some not (!)  Beware next week – the “Fine Master” has stated any inappropriate introductions will be subject to fine….

Included today were:  John (sorry didn’t get his last name) employed by a sound system company; Bill Nelson of the UK was here again; Julie/Chris and 4 legged friend Gaylord from the Humane Society Animal Shelter; John Hayes, past president of an Ohio club;

Wayne’s son Jonathon who were VERY glad to see up and around and well!  Lets here it for wearing your seat belt!!!

Leanna from Acordia was again visiting as well as Pam Taylor from the evening club and the current president elect of the evening club Jim….

 

 

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 

  • Bart Cross will head up the Tsunami HELP committee for our club. Bart will coordinate with the other 2 clubs.
  • Board minutes will be distributed some time next week.  Each meeting will have a 5 minute briefing of “business” to keep the club abreast of the business end of things
  • Ralph Martin’s retirement is FRIDAY 1/21/05 at the CDOT building on 160… please go by and wish Ralph happy retirement.. refreshments served
  • To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Rotary, there will be a special meeting on 2/24 with great food and a brief history of Rotary’s 100 years by past District Governor – the honorable Bill Tarpley
  • Jennifer Simon will head up HI NOON’s contribution to the full page ad celebrating Rotary’s 100th.  Jennifer will also coordinate with the other 2 clubs.
  • Dave Spencer Ski Classic is in March, see Mike McGuire if you want to help on this
  • Red Ball – our goal this year is $11,000 for OUR club to net.  That means each HI NOON member should sell or buy 20 if possible – call Bill Cartwright / Mark Prouty
  • Steve Govreau sold 2 follies tickets to Dave G for a whopping $200 – the money will go to scholarships…
  • Jim from the evening club reported on his trip to Punta Gorda Florida with a trailer full of ornaments for “operation ornament”.  It was a whopping success and VERY much appreciated by all the 520 families who were the recipients of ornaments from Durango.
  • We are looking for a SPELLABRATION TEAM for next weeks SNOW DOWN fund raiser that benefits the Durango Adult Education Center.   Last year Tammy Coddington and 2 others (sorry I don’t remember who) lead our team.    Call Paulette Church at 385 4354 if you have a team .  Its great fun and a super way to start off “SUPER POWER” SNOW DOWN
  • Bob Chaput will be updating the Roster next week… bring your best smile for a photo op…. Bob will then add new members to the roster

Rick O’Block found a way to charge everyone at least $1 for something..except Wayne because his son was well and here J

PROGRAM:

 

We heard from Julie and Chris of the Humane Society Shelter.  Julie is the director of the Shelter and they brought “Gaylord” – a very friendly mutt… who is looking for a new home.  The Shelter will be expanding due to the need for additional Thrift Store space.  The shelter will also be expanding to meet the ever increasing need for more housing and care facilities for animals.
