ROTARY GRAM 1/6/05 MEETING
The meeting was opened with a silent prayer for those
affected by the tsunami.
GUESTS:
- We
were joined by Mark Dold and his FTO (field training
officer). Mark
is a member of our club, but has been
in training for many months to become (and now is) a state trooper. Good to see
you back Mark!!
- Puifai, our Rotary foreign exchange student is in town
for few weeks. Great to see her
smiling face again!
- The
director of San Juan
Basin
health announced a partnership plan to help
with inoculations for children in
our county.
- Debra Eroda joined us as
- new
member Justin Osborne’s wife Tammy
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
- Ralph
Martin announced his retirement at the end of this month and sadly his
move to Honolulu
soon – we will miss you Ralph.
Great place to move to however!
- We all
enjoyed reading the thank you notes for the dictionary’s given to all 3rd
grade students again this year.
- Peter
Marshall was thanked for having HIGH NOON ROTARY on the sign out front (he
was later fined for the same thing!)
- Esteemed
president Mike Mcguire thanked the service staff
with a round of applause and a check to be shared by the employees.
- Our
club will be joining with the evening and daybreak clubs to fund a
district wide effort for relief for the tsunami victims. Since RI will be focusing on the follow
up and rebuilding of the affected areas, rather than immediate relief, we
will have some time to determine how best to raise money. Joe and Jan Williams are coordinating
the efforts here in Durango. Possibly with the assistance of
Engineers without Borders . Frank Valen
has fund raising ideas, and Charlie Albert also will be involved.
- Frank
will be going in for heart /valve surgery in February in Albuquerque
- Ward
Holmes father passed away, please keep his family in your thoughts and
prayers.
SGT AT ARMS:
Rick O’Block was successful in
filling the fine jars with $1’s from foot ball fans, birthdays, anniversaries
(some of you forgot those!!!) and newspaper articles. I didn’t hear any fine for the Rotarian who
won the Big Brother/ Big Sister play house….. hmmm
Rick also read the “benefits” of being over 40…..
FUND RAISING:
Bill Cartwright reminded us that Red ball tickets are
available. Red Ball will be March 6 this year up at DMR. It would be great if each member could sell/
purchase 20… Remember, we no longer sell
Mexican Fiesta tickets… so now is the time to step up
to the plate for the good of HNR. A
member cannot be named on the ticket, but spouses and other relatives can …
last year someone’s spouse won 2 or 3rd prize (sorry I don’t recall
which.. but it was a chunk of change!)
See Bill for or Mark Prouty for tickets.
