MEETING OF 8/26/04

 

President Mike McGuire opened the meeting in fine form.

 

Guests were introduced and included our new foreign exchange student from France, Annette. 

 

Announcements:

 

  • THERE WILL BE A MEETING ON 9/16.  WE WILL NOT ATTEND THE PANCAKE BREAKFAST AGAIN THIS YEAR.  PRESIDENT MIKE ASSURED US THERE WILL BE FOOD THIS YEAR…….

9/16 LUNCH AS USUAL AT THE DOUBLETREE

 

  • TRI DISTRICT MEETING WILL BE HELD HERE ON 10/29 – 30.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPARE GUEST ROOM AS WE WILL NEED HOST FAMILIES FOR THE VISITING ROTARIANS.

 

  • BOARD MEETING WAS HELD 8/25 – ACCORDING TO MIKE, LOTS HAPPENED.  SEE HIM OR ANY BOARD MEMBER  FOR DETAILS

 

  • MEAL PRICES WILL HAVE TO GO UP $1 DUE TO RISING FOOD PRICES.   NO DATE WAS MENTIONED AS TO WHEN THAT GOES INTO EFFECT.

 

  • GOLF TOURNAMENT NETTED UNITED WAY AND HIGH NOON ROTARY $13,000 EACH!!!! GOOD JOB GOLFERS AND VOLUNTEERS

 

  • THERE WILL BE A MEETING IN OCTOBER TO DISCUSS BUCKLEY PARK ISSUES.   MORE DETAILS IN LATER NEWSLETTERS

 

  • TELLURIDE ROTARY IS HOSTING A GOLF TOURNAMENT 9/25.

 

  • DISTRICT 5470 CONFERENCE IS 10/8 – 10/10.  ALL ARE INVITED. IT IS BEING HELD IN SNOWMASS THIS YEAR.  SEE MIKE OR STEVE GOVREAU FOR DETAILS.

  • CROW CANYON ARCHEOLOGICAL SITE IS HOSTING A FABULOUS EVENING OF WINE AND FOOD ON 9/10/04.  FAMOUS AUTHOR JUDITH REYNOLDS WILL BE SPEAKING.  A BUS FROM DURANGO WILL GET YOU THERE AND BACK!! CALL BURT COLEMAN IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.

 

  • FRANK VALEN ‘S DEL TACO NEAR WAL MART NOW HAS FOUNDATION – HE ALSO HAS A CHANCE FOR 3 MORE UP THE WESTERN FRONT

 

 

  • BANK OF SAN JUANS WILL HAVE A DRIVE THROUGH ON

  • TOM GALBRAITH’S BOAT MISSED THE HURRICANE

  • JILL WARK LOVES WORKING FOR THE 27 BRANCH PRESIDENTS OF BANK OF COLORADO

 

  • DAVID DOWNS HAD A GREAT WEEK IN HIS LAW PRACTICE SO HE PURCHASED 2 WHEELCHAIRS.

 

  • STEVE WHEELDON WILL BE SGT AT ARMS IN SEPTEMBER.

Our social calendar is filling up.  Things to do with your rotary friends:

9/4/04 Hike Engineer Peak.  Terry Price will bring his llamas to pack all the gear…… just bring your hiking shoes and lunch/ water etc.  Meet at

Susan sanders office on 9/4 (Saturday) at 7:30 am.  Pastries, coffee and goodies at Susan’s office first, then we will travel to the trail head. You can go up as much or as little as you like.  Friends/ spouses/ kids all welcome.  Please call Susan if you plan on going.

 

9/5/04 bike to tremble from BREAD  bring your bike and your friends and meet at BREAD at 9:00am  

 

Dave Ganevsky wants volunteers to help him plan the holiday party. Give him a call.

 

CARD DRAW…  Dr. Volger pulled a dud… Steve Wheeldon pulled the winner.  He will donate the $300 pot to 4 wheel chairs.   One in the name of Bill Wright and one in the name of past member Bill Mauer.  The other 2 will be named next week.

 

19 Durangoan including several High noon Rotarians biked around the Olympic peninsula in Washington.
