President
Steve Wheeldon opened the meeting with a clang of the Rotary Bell followed by
the invocation by Dr. Mulkey. A room
full of guest were introduced, Karen Lemke (Four Corners Broadcasting), John
Peel (Durango Herald), Matt Pope, Bob Pope, Bob Salzer, Dan Bowser Arizona, Ken
Fusco Ft Lauderdale, FL, Doyle Pickett Shreveport, LA, Congressman Scott
McGinnis and his wife, Kohler McGinnis and LuAnn Kraemer from Scott s office. Our Congressman was on a very tight
schedule, which included speaking to the Kiwanis Club in Durango, a meeting in
Grand Junction, and a meeting in Walsenburg.
Now that is getting around District 3. Scott spoke of the Federal Government
s course of action since the terrorists bombing of the World Trade Center in
New Your City. Nation. Scott then answered questions from the
audience on a wide range of subjects. McGinnis stated that contributions should
remain in the local community for United Way services, for Red Cross, and for
Salvation Army type needs. The Federal
Government will take care of the needs for New York City and the Pentagon. The Congressman stated that we Americans
should go about our business as usual and not be intimidated about the
possibility of what if. Having
attended undergraduate school here at Ft Lewis College, Scott is very familiar
with the community and many of the residents here, so it is difficult for him
to be in this community for an hour thanks for coming. Next weekend is the
