Durango High Noon Rotary Club

President Steve Wheeldon opened the meeting with a clang of the Rotary Bell followed by the invocation by Dr. Mulkey.  A room full of guest were introduced, Karen Lemke (Four Corners Broadcasting), John Peel (Durango Herald), Matt Pope, Bob Pope, Bob Salzer, Dan Bowser Arizona, Ken Fusco Ft Lauderdale, FL, Doyle Pickett Shreveport, LA, Congressman Scott McGinnis and his wife, Kohler McGinnis and LuAnn Kraemer from Scott s office.  Our Congressman was on a very tight schedule, which included speaking to the Kiwanis Club in Durango, a meeting in Grand Junction, and a meeting in Walsenburg.  Now that is getting around District 3. Scott spoke of the Federal Government s course of action since the terrorists bombing of the World Trade Center in New Your City.  Nation.  Scott then answered questions from the audience on a wide range of subjects. McGinnis stated that contributions should remain in the local community for United Way services, for Red Cross, and for Salvation Army type needs.  The Federal Government will take care of the needs for New York City and the Pentagon.  The Congressman stated that we Americans should go about our business as usual and not be intimidated about the possibility of what if.    Having attended undergraduate school here at Ft Lewis College, Scott is very familiar with the community and many of the residents here, so it is difficult for him to be in this community for an hour thanks for coming. Next weekend is the District Conference in Telluride if you have never been to a conference, you should go get an education, and enjoy yourself, and each of you will receive a gift from Roy and Judy Governor Bill Tarpley and first lady Dorothy, I hope this will not ruin your surprise !!! Monday evening at 5:30 in the East 9 St offices of President Steve, there will be a work party to get all the registration packets stuffed for the conference you ll enjoy the camaraderie and witness the manual dexterity of your fellow Rotarians. Breakfast at Steve & Ann Redding Saturday morning 7:30 AM for those trash picker-uppers.  Be on Hwy 160 at 9AM just above Durango West II for your trash bags and orange vests.
