Steve introduced Mark Hill from District, who encouraged us to attend the conference in October. Steve reminded us that to be a Distinguished Club 15 members, ½ the new members, the President, Secretary and Treasurer must attend the conference. This is a great weekend getaway, made better by Rotary fellowship and the setting.
Steve read a note from Denise Maurer, thanking the club. We owe thanks to her for sharing Bill with us.
Melissa, Missy and Bob Kaput (aka Chaput) reminded us of the upcoming golf tournament, 25 teams have committed and only one hole sponsorship (or two ½ holes) remains to be sold. Steve W. solicited a ringer, Mark Hill, for his team, privileges of leadership&&&.
Jeannie updated the club on plans made by the newly formed Fun Committee, including:
·
The Rotary Wheel/on/trailer will be decked out for the Fiesta Days Parade. Come and help decorate, walk the route and ride the float. This Saturday, 8:00 AM at 3rd Ave and 4th Street.·
Rotary night at the Melodrama, September 7, to enjoy Forever Plaid , a play set in the 50 s, with music etc. Rotarians and their guests are invited, with $10.00 of the $20.00 ticket going back to the club. Thanks Ms. Wheeldon!·
Potluck at the Marshall pond, Sunday, September 30th. Games, catch and release fly fishing, cheap chicken on the grill, fall colors etc. Tentatively set for 1:00 PM til? More information to follow, including dish assignments, help with chairs and shelters from the sun (rain?). Steve Redding has offered parking at his place, with shuttle service up the road.
Pam Moore introduced the new Secret of Life birthday event, where Rotarians with birthdays during the week of the meeting will have the opportunity to share their secret with the rest of the club. Steve W. admitted to 52 years under his belt and his secret is bananas. Some of us think it might be little needles.
Pam announced other milestones, Marv Collentine. marked his 3rd year as a Rotarian and Brian Gone Fishin Myers hit the big 4 - 0.
Pam shamelessly promoted the biker chick group she belongs to, by flashing a newspaper article picked up by a national wire service, reporting on the Hardly Angels appearance in ABQ. The group will appear this weekend in DRO, look in the paper for when and where.
Bud Deering paid a fine for recently buying two cars, a new one for his Missus and a cruiser for himself.
Russell Parker put $40.00 in the pot to retroactively commemorate his 40th (June) and let us know that his secret of life is his two daughters, who graced us with their presence today.
Ron Holligan and his wife celebrated their anniversary in Quebec, Canada, worthy of a substantial contribution.
Emil Nodge Nagy had the lucky ticket and correctly answered Pam s brainteaser category question, People Power!
Mike McGuire acknowledged the support from Rotarians for Camp Courage, including Tami Coddington, Steve Redding, Burt Coleman and Bob Chaput. Our President in turn recognized Mike. We learned the Mike s nickname, bestowed by the kids, is Tog. Ask him.
Carl Clark told a few obligatory cop jokes to welcome Mike back
To introduce our speaker, Terri Leonard, RN, Steve and Bob V. told us about the aches and pains associated with trying to ride young horses. Miss Leonard is a trained and experienced in certain alternative Chinese medical modalities, including acupuncture and acupressure, with some herbs sprinkled in. We learned that the use of these alternatives is on the rise and that the NIH has positive things to report about them.
Steve offered the members the opportunity to vote on our holiday meeting schedule.
