Today was the second grand adventure for the new President, Steve Wheeldon. He appears calm as he faces leading this band of leaders. Steve led the pledge and Joe lead in prayer.
REMEMBER TO RETURN THE GREETING STEVE GIVES AS THE MEETING BEGINS
.
Speaking of meetings, we are experiencing a change in the time of the meeting. The meal will be ready for serving at 11:45 and the meeting will begin at 12:05. Steve has much business to conduct during the meeting and this will help in achieving his goal. Also, the cost of meals is going up a dollar beginning in September. The cost will be twelve dollars.
The next Board meeting is August 22nd at 7:00 in the Edgewater Lounge. RED BADGES SHOULD ATTEND.
We did introduce our guests. We had Will Newcomer, the soon to be husband of our newest member, Jenny Kane. Also, present for the induction into our club was Connie Kane, mom of Jenny. Kenneth Walker joined the group again this day. He will not be in attendance next week so his perfect attendance will slip. Ken Fusco returned to join our group, as did Frank Valen. Jim Burpee was present as a guest. Chessa introduced her son s girlfriend, Elyssa Parker. Wynn introduced his lovely wife of six weeks, Linda Mack.
Steve reported that we are in great financial shape. We have about eighty thousand in the bank. Fifty Thousand is committed to the park project and the other is club operations and other projects. Steve asked if we had fun at the World Cup. He then gathered the workers of the event at the front of the room and thanked them for what they had done. He gave them each a pin for Service Above Self. There was a photo opportunity following the meeting as a picture was taken to be sent with a report to Rotary International.
Melissa, Bob and Missy were given their moment to address the club about the Golf Tournament. We need two holes to be sponsored and items are needed for the silent auction. Missy would also like us to look at silent auction items with a value of greater than two hundred and fifty dollars. One final point is we are in need of eight more teams.
Steve stated that Bob Chaput needs the information for the new roster to be returned to him before next Thursday. Bob intends to send the material to the publisher on Friday next week. Bob is our CICO, Club Internet Communication Officer.
Emil reported the family we assisted with some support has returned to Hungary. They are grateful for the assistance and help we provided. Emil reported he is celebrating his 38th anniversary and he wanted to pay a Happy Dollar.
We then met the bikers, Pam and Carl. These two Sergeants at Arms folks have changed the rules to assist the new members. Members will tell the Red Badge standing at the door the number of their badges and the red badge will secure the member=s badge. This will allow for the new members to associate names and faces. Pam fined Bob Foster for losing his ticket. Change Pam said she would fine folks if they do not buy a ticket. Len had his ticket drawn and given the choices of five categories. Len=s choice was current events. He started strongly and with the help of his friends he gave an answer to the question Who are the countries meeting at the Big Eight Summit? Pam said that it will be Show and Tell Time in August. She wants us to bring something from home about the size of a football to talk to the club about. Carl also informed the club that new members will be helping Pam do her work and when we are fined we are to stand up. This will help with face and name recognition. Scott Mathis paid a fine for his father-in-law as he attended the World Cup but needed the resort to transport him to the Rotary Tent.
Jenny Kane was inducted into the club this day. Jenny will always be known as Miss July. The goal of Rotary this year is to have a new member added each month. Scott did one of the better jobs in introducing this young woman. He apparently fabricated some of the information about cooking and mom to the rescue. We will never know for certain but her husband to be sure will. Jenny is the executive director of San Juan Mountain Association. She has done a lot of volunteering in her past and she appears to be continuing with the Women=s Resource Center and the Cancer Society. Welcome to one whom, as Scott says, she sparkles.
John Beekmann received his Blue Badge and missed the opportunities now afford to those of Red Badge status.
Mike Matheson is the chair of our Community Avenue of Service. This group is responsible for raising the cash, reading proposals, learning of community needs and awarding money to worthy enterprises. The mission of this committee is To identify, fund and implement Community Service Projects that beautify the community, benefit youth and promote Rotary Fellowship. He has established Coordinators for the various enterprises that will be undertaken.n instead of a d and look at what he did for that family in need again much given in service to others).
Steve Govreau (pronounced with a long O serves as chair of the Club Service committee. Chessa has taken on the task of being the Program Chair (she has served on the scholarship committee as chair and has given much to the club), Caring Committees co-chaired by Susan Sanders (she did the membership committee and has given much time and effort to the club) Arvella Higby (remember what she did at the Mexican Food Fiesta and she moved quickly through the red badge process), Fun Committee chaired by Jeannie Wheeldon (donations to the club, the skits, the drama the play she has again given much to enrich the club and boy does she have fun), John Marshal the bulletin chair. The purposes of these committees are to help the club in making certain that members are cared for, informed and knowledgeable about the club and especially to have fun.
Mark Hill will join us next week with Assistant District Governor Bob Volger to inform us about the District meeting to be held in Telluride. Also, Chessa has booked Terri Leonard to speak with us about Oriental Medicine.
These are the speakers and meeting schedule to take us through December 9th.
ONE FINAL NOTE:
It has been my pleasure to have served with each one of you in working to achieve Service above Self. It is within each of us to reflect on the blessings we have received to live in this land filled with bounty and opportunity. These allow us as a club and as individuals to reach out to help so many people through Vocational Service, Club Service, Community Service and International Service who are not as fortunate as we. May the sunrise to greet you each morning and may your hearts be filled with love, caring and joy serving your fellow man but more importantly your God. I will miss our times together and I will miss you all. Bear
