HIGH NOON ROTARY
September 21, 2000
Today was a day to get to know your fellow club member. We had breakfast for lunch as we imbibed the pancakes provided by the Kiwanas Club. Tom did not open the meeting as he allowed the fellowship to flow. We did have two guests attend this day: Brian Kimmel and Gordon Smith.
Tom would like the club to be updated on the Board Meeting held on the 20th. The Board discussed the E-mail newsletters. This has worked really well except for two of our folks who do not have access to the fabled computer. The Board reviewed three proposed new members. Their names will be shared in a future bulletin for membership approval. Steve Govreau has submitted six of our projects for a Presidential citation. This, if it happens, will be given at the conference. The subject of fining came up during a discussion. What Tom would like to achieve is to keep the high challenges(money) down and have smaller fines where more people rise to the occasion. Did you know that fines are a revenue item in the budget and past Sargent at Arms brag about the numbers they raised. This happens late at night as the sit around the campfire. These items all came under the heading of CLUB SERVICE.
We did not have a report from the Vocational Service group as the chair was not present. The chair of the endowment committee was not present so the subject of Playground equipment for Saint Columba school did not get decided. Endowments were left hanging also. We did talk of scholarships and moved up to 1500 dollars from scholarships to the La Plata Youth Services for help in coordinating the club mentoring program. The money will allow them to network their computers and help with the scheduling.
Charlie Albert spoke of the International Service avenue of service. The ambulance has arrived in La Villa. They dedicated it at the same time as our Board meeting. A GSE interview committee is being formed. The group is still looking for applicants. There was a discussion about Rotary Youth exchange and our need to delay the exchange until next year.
Tom mentioned that we may try to get a bus set up to take a group of folks to the International Convention in San Antonio in June. Talk it up with your spouse and see if you want to spend a few days learning about Rotary. We talked of the convention being held in Vail next month. High Noon will provide a door prize that includes train tickets and a night at the Melodrama.
Outings that are scheduled: Horseback ride on the 24th on Molas, Motorcycle ride on the 21st of October on the Scenic By Ways.
District room reservations can be made by calling 970-476-7111.
