HIGH NOON ROTARY

OCTOBER 14, 1999

High Noon Rotary met on another gorgeous fall day in Southwestern Colorado. Presiding officer Pete Sanders gaveled us to attention. Members showered all of the respect that is due to a person in high office. Bud Poe returned thanks and led the pledge.

Visitors, as always, were welcomed. Introduced were Mary Barter, Superintendent of 9R School District, Walt Deere, who was visiting a family in Durango from Henderson, Kentucky, Ned Amstutz, Minister from First Baptist Church, Garth Schultheis, and Kim Butler, from KIUP.

The fund raising committee met just prior to the club meeting today. They are Bud Deering, Petra Lyon, Nancy Hammond, Mike Matheson, Karen L’Argent, Jeff Jaeger and David Brooks.

Bill Maurer, reported by Patty Burkholder, is back home and will soon be back to work.

Paulette Church was inducted into Rotary by Karen L’Argent. Pete Sanders made the welcoming talk - very good, Pete. Steve Govreau introduced the new personal information sheets on each Rotarian with forms at each table to be updated. Nice job.

We now have a new badge box and attendance sign-in sheet. Great work, Jill and Kevin Bruce.

Pete announced the Kiwanis contribution of $267 for the Pancake Day. Rotary usually supports this fund raiser but didn’t go due to miscommunication.

The Program for today was "Impact World Tour" with the principal speaker from Australia. The Ludington, Michigan "event" started an immediate reduction in that community of 10,000 as reported by a policeman.

The "event" is a musical program with speakers suggesting that students live right and stay away from drugs, alcohol and premarital sex. The program has a ten minute video utilizing fire dancing to Polynesian music, skateboards, and in-line skating professionals.

Several programs will be presented in local schools.

Bear was sick today. Ol’ Roy did this.
