Petra opened the meeting by projecting her voice to every corner of the room. She noted the Rhino in front of the lectern and ask who had given it. Nancy Hammond was the donor. The reason was to have us be aware that we do not want to become a RHINO. That is: become a Rotarian in name only. Petra then mentioned the cards for Carl Clark, whose wife is ill, and Fred Klatt. Joe opened with prayer and pledge. Pete Holton then introduced a hands-on project for Friday. The Riverwalk cleanup and fun event. If you read this and go “Oh, no”, Yep, you missed it. We introduced our guests. George Townsend was there, as were Joe Colgin and Doyle Pickett. Chessa Gill introduced her right hand person but my left ear missed the name. J. R. stated that Nancy Hammond told him she was in the paper and wanted to pay a fine. J.R. then asked his table if they wished to confess. They did not, so he fined them a buck. Jill, Ellen and Emile were so nice as greeters, J. R. fined the whole group a buck. He then read the list of SHAME all those who have not turned in their Mexican Food Fiesta money. They are Mark Vinson, Mike McGuire, Wynn Berven, Bill Mauer, Mike Matheson, Dean Brookie, The Reader, Jack Cassidy, Rick O Block, and a few who will not be named here. J. R. asked who was honored last week as a Paul Harris Fellow . Tom Galbraith was the name Pattie gave. The question had to do with his not wearing his luncheon badge this week. Petra announced we have some bucks in the bank. She also said that dues were going up on July 1 as the result of Board action. The Board wants to cover operating costs of the club and not use other funds to cover the cost. We currently pay 84, the new deal is 120. The actual overhead cost is $170 per member. Petra gave the super Rotarian of the month award to Kevin Bruce for all the great work on the Mexican Food fund raiser. She only had one badge as someone took the other one. The other notable Rotarian was Susan Sanders for her extra effort on the membership committee. The Board lifted the moratorium on new members. There is a rumor that we now have only 95 members. So get your new membership information kit and sponsor a new member. Susan will be finalizing those documents soon. Jim Jennings, standing in for Dave Eppich of the San Juan Forum, sent around an announcement for a training opportunity on the 14 th of June at San Juan College. It is on the transition to the Digital Economy. We got invited to the Park Elementary Grand Opening of the Nature Studies area. Petra needs a volunteer to attend in her stead. Mike Mc Guire is looking for speakers for next year’s programs. Give him those names. Also, he announced a new driving program for kids between the age of 15 and 24. Court or parents can sentence them in. Adam Duke thanked us for his scholarship. Jill Clark mentioned she got married and changed her last name. It sounds like Zgarner. We then heard from Jan and Joe Williams, Charley Albert and Marv Collentine about their trip to Mexico. They had a great time seeing the Mexam project and our project in Mexico. Pete Sanders gave his experiences through a few notes from Jan. The cultural differences really struck Pete. One Final Note: “Assert your right to make a few mistakes.
