She exudes enthusiasm. Welcoming us to another great day in Rotary was her aim. We had prayer and pledge by Joe Thompson. It was then off to the introduction of guests. A man from Waco joined the group, C. J. Petterson. Kevin Bruce introduced his mother in law, Millie. This is Jill’s mom, but Jill did not want to introduce her. Petra fined her two bucks. Jill, that is, not mom. Rod Cook, our speaker of the day, was introduced as were his two companions. Pam Taylor, who belies those rumors of the evening club being old men, was with us. Bud Deering did clarify her role in that club, as she is their nurse. Fines were levied on the group. Dave James, Joe Brown and Petra were fined for having others sell their Mexican Food Fiesta tickets. J. R. Informed the club that the esteemed Judge Greg Lyman had paid a fine for his picture in the paper. He paid twenty bucks as the picture made him look twenty years older. J. R. paid a fine for his son turning three. The party is Saturday at the Childrens’ Museum. Petra noted that the Trash Pick up crew found a 1st National Pen which was presented to Karen. Mike Matheson noted that Norwest bank statements were found strewn over the hillside. He wanted a fine but Bill Mauer asked for evidence of the claim. There was none. Laurie Forbes paid a fine of a dollar per member of the club for her joining Triple S as a broker associate. The other fine was again inventive. J. R. lauded Kevin Bruce for his grand work on the Mexican Food Feast. He then fined us all a buck as a way to honor this excellent work. Rumor has it that the kitchen crew was well into their cups during the dinner hour. A nameless Rotarian was the object of much concern. Kevin Bruce was given the floor after Petra recognized Don Freemyer for taking over the cleaning of the kitchen. Kevin noted changes may occur next year. The date may be on the 5th of May or the 28th of April. He has concerns about capacity of the location to deal with more people. Will there be long lines? Will we be able to find seats? Delivery will be at noon only and be printed on the tickets. He felt that the filling of plates was quick and done well. The big question is whether or not we will serve alcohol next year at dinner. This will change the event from Family to what? The Board will discuss this. Stay tuned. ANNOUNCEMENTS: All those who braved the weather to pick up trash were given stars and applause. District Governor Glen Viemeyer has passed away. There will be a ceremony at the District Conference. The grant we sent to Rotary will be reviewed this month. $25,000 for Kids in Need of Dentistry. Penneys will be taking donations next week for those caught by the Tornado in Oklahoma City. You get 25% off certificates and a five dollar chit. Big Announcement the Golf Tourney is now going to be at Tamarron. Rick Galligan will host the event for the club. We will have the potential to raise more cash and include more Golfers. He has special rates for the course the day before and after the event. Also specials on rooms for the weekend. Lots of fun and a day in the sun. Needed are prizes from out of the area. Items like staying a night at a Bed and Breakfast. A dinner in Telluride or Ouray, combined with a couple nights lodging. Lets build up the prize list. Marv Collentine had the chance to guess who was that Rotarian. He got it right as we learned that Rick Galligan served as a bar tender to pay his way through school. J. R. Live introduced Pam Taylor from the other club to our group. She was a past president in the evening club and has the distinction of being the first women to join Rotary in Minnesota. She is a photographer and owns Andy’s Photography. We then heard of an epidemic that threatens our forests and grasslands. Noxious weeds. These can be ornamental plants like daisies that force out native plants. The fields then cannot support wildlife, cattle or horses. Knappweed, in all its forms, will create a mono culture that will kill native grasses. Todd Flax, Canada Thistle, Musk Thistle are others that threaten our landscape. The weeds have no natural predators as they arrived here in seed form. They are distributed by water, windy weather, wildlife, domestic animals and birds. Weeds are found in mulch and hay. Also, vehicles can cause seeds to be transported. Places that weeds find homes are disturbed soil, over or under grazed areas and where vegetation is stressed. These noxious plants can and do kill other plants and animals. They have superior ability in the use of water and soils. They reproduce easily and have long seed life. What can we do about this problem? We can learn about them and increase awareness. Do prevention programs and start planning efforts. Finally work with our neighbors to remove the problem. ONE FINAL NOTE: “Freedom is the awareness of alternatives and of the ability to choose.” А "А # $ %А" MSWDprefer MSWDpreffВ MSWDpreffr@ MSWDprefhВ€ MSWDpref§/r MSWDs6BN‡2 MSWDs6BNˆr MSWDs6BNˆ2@ MSWDs6BNŠr€ MSWDs8BN<2 MSWDs8BN<2ъдОЈ’|fP:$ [$@ёџ$NormalmH <A@ђџЁ<Default Paragraph Font’ўOёџђ’ WP DefaultsRd№ ЦGа p@ рА€P №Р!$`'0*-а/ 2p5@8;р=А@B*CJOJQJkH'mH @ўOђџ@ InitialStyleB*CJOJQJkH'mH Э4!4 џџ џџ.
