Today was a day that will live in history as we were given Sandwiches for lunch. Soup was also served with a side of Salad and Coleslaw. Oh, the shame of losing favor with the Chef and Doubletree manager. What did we do wrong? Why were we singled out for such a fate. Yes, Alice there was a bright spot, we were not locked in the basement.

Oh, we did open the meeting. Petra recovering from pneumonia was filling the rostrum in her grand style. She asked Wynn Berven to open in prayer. We could not pledge as the Doubletree has misplaced the Flag. Wow!

We did introduce quests this day as is our custom. Jill Bruce was there with Kevin. Our other August guests were Ellen Roberts, Skip Cave, Steve Goverau, Joe Colgin, Sue Wright, and Gwen Ivie. Welcome, Welcome.

Petra mentioned the float for Snowdown and all that has been accomplished. There are a few folks needed to tear the float down on Saturday. With this stated the red badges of the club were asked to stand. They did and they became volunteers to help with the float. Scott Mathis is excused as this worthy has already shown his metal. William Clark then updated us on Swing Your Sweetie. This man has attempted to do the whole thing and volunteers are now needed to help. Decorating in the afternoon with Susan Sanders. Picking up tables and chairs. Finding the glasses, plates, and cutlery are all needed. Get involved. Call Susan, William, or Robin if you want to be a Bar Tender. We have twenty couples from the club signed up.

PRESIDENT ELECT-ELECT Tom Galbraith was given the floor to tell of his adventures on the East Coast. He has decided he wants to become an Ambassador of Rotary. He has seen and heard many good ideas as he made up on the beaches of Florida. These will become part of his Rotary Year. Welcome back, Tom.

Important News: We will be at the Childrens' Museum on February 18th for a tour. There will not be a lunch served, so either bring a lunch or gather a group and eat at your favorite restaurant later.

Interact Fund Raiser: The group will be doing a Spaghetti Dinner on February 8th at the High School from 5:00 to 8:00 in the evening. This event will help them secure a grant from the EL POMAR foundation of some 7,500 dollars. Help the kids out. Tickets are six dollars for adults. What do the kids do? They have a tutoring program, help clean and fix the park, and are building a Web Page? They intend to send six willing workers to Mexico with Habitat for Humanity to build houses in Mexico. Great Kids. Charlie Albert was recognized for giving a truck and driver to move our computers and sewing machines to Colorado Springs for delivery to Mexico. Thanks, Charlie.

JR then was given the floor to wreck havoc on the assemblage. He fined Pete Holten for not wearing his badge. Pete was not there so the fine fell to JR. Mike McGuire was fined again for the two cover stories of his life and times. Brian Myers will need a loan when he returns to the club. The man is a publicist and a fine master dream come true. Some fish story, Brian and Pat. Wayne Bedor was fined for his move to Interim County Manager. Then the fine for those who did survive the sixties. JR had all those who did those things in the sixties stand. He then noted how many there were that had survived the sixties and then he fined those not standing. The question of the day in Name That Rotarian was, who performed at half time in the Super Bowl in 1976. Yes, it was Jeannie Wheeldon belting out a few songs with Up With People. Jeannie had the sixties down cold in dress and act this day. Yea, Man, Wow.

We inducted a Land Man Lady to the club, Gwen Ivie. Seems she was a receptionist who wanted more of a challenge at work. She asked and was given the task of acquiring land rights for oil and gas, utilities, and phone lines. She said the company felt that land owners would not shoot a woman, so off she went. She works here and lives in Farmington where she is a member of Petroleum Independents. They have a fund raiser Golf Tourney she invited everyone to. Sound familiar, and what is the date of our golf tourney or Mexican Food Feast?

Skip Cave was our speaker of the day and he gave an insightful talk on Decision making. If you need buy into the decision, let the group or team be the decision makers. Your job is to present the problem, set the constraints, state who decides, do not imply a solution, protect all points of view, restrain dominate members, make supporting decisions when the need arises, summarize the meeting, check for consensus, and write the decision down. Thanks, Skip.
