Program

Rick Routh introduced individuals representing two units of Fort Lewis College.  Gigi Duthie, Director of Continuing Education and Andy Burns, the new Admissions Director.  Gigi kicked off the dual program. She is a 3rd generation Durangoan and stressed the importance of Continuing Education linking Fort Lewis College to the community.  Her office provides a service, a connection and education.  Catalogs for this spring semester’s offerings ere on all tables.  Categories of classes include Arts/Crafts, Communications, Computer Skills, Environmental Health, languages, Leisure, Ecommerce, Public Relations, Financial Planning, Fundraising and several off-site course opportunities, including some abroad.

Andy Burns is new to Durango and most recently at Johns Hopkins University.  He gave an overview of the A-B-C’s of Admission.  A is involving alumni and making connections with the FLC alumni community and asking for assistance in attracting students to the college.  FLC values these4 relationships and is looking for alumni participation in the admissions process.  B stands for Being Involved in La Plata County high schools and described a recruitment/application process they are trying in the schools, in some cases waiving the application fees.  10-12% of the college’s student body is from the country.  C is for Commitment.  Andy stated the scholarship program has been revamped and that the college is committed to assisting scholarship students, who maintain the criteria, with financial help for 4-years.  He distributed a new brochure “Making College Affordable:  Ways to Finance Your Education at Fort Lewis College.”
